Mauritius, the central independent island state of the Mascarene group, lies about 800 km (500 miles) east of Madagascar. Covering an area of 2000 km2 (788 sq. miles) it remains a little known divers paradise.
The tropical climate has two distinct seasons. Between May and October it is fresh and dry, November sees the onset of the Monsoon and the highest temperatures.
Because most dive sites are prone to occasional strong currents, some experience in drift-diving may be required, especially if you want to get close to big pelagic fish. As diving in this area is still relatively new it is an ideal opportunity to explore uncharted waters.
